Neep Carving – All Hallows
Neeps! – what are they? If you don’t live in Scotland you probably call them turnips. For hundres of years they have been carved out to make lanterns to light the way for lost spirits on All Hallows’ Eve – the night of the year when th veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest.

Neep carving is hard! They are much tougher than the pumpkins we carve today. I’ve taken a bit of artistic licence for the second illustration because turnips are not gooey like pumpkins.
