Every night I read fairy tales to my children, I am fascinated by the variations on the tales, both the classics and the more unusual stories for our culture. Some of them are so gory I have to fumble a bit to gloss over the details, and some of them are so beautifully descriptive that I am left inhabiting their world for a bit, like walking in the shadow of another time and place. ‘Cinders & The Earth’ is the first set in this collection, based on a telling of the classic Cinderella were the magic comes from a hazel tree planted with love and hope.
